From the past to the present, the world and society we live in have shown great development. The communication process, as a field within society, has also been affected by this situation. As a result of the development of technology along with globalization, the information society emerged, and the needs and demands of this society took their place within the developing process as structures affecting communication processes and communication environments. With the emergence of new communication technologies, the social, economic and cultural structures of society also underwent change. These changing structures also affected communication processes and communication environments. In this situation, it led to change in both the fields of public relations and advertising, causing these fields to take on a more original and more professional character.
In line with these realities, the main aim of the Istanbul Galata University Department of Public Relations and Advertising is to enable its students to build a successful career by gaining competent qualifications in the fields of public relations and advertising, and to create the opportunity for them to position themselves as communication professionals. In this direction, due to the interdisciplinary nature of public relations and advertising as a communication field, in our first two years a social-sciences-weighted education is given at a basic level, such as public relations and advertising, communication science, communication theories, media history, creative and critical thinking, art history, gender and media, and traditional and digital media literacy.
In the last two years, they take core field courses in which they will specialize in the field of public relations and advertising, such as digital public relations, advertising copywriting, neuromarketing, advertising analyses, digital advertising and creativity in advertising. In addition, in our department, students are also taught computer-aided basic design programs that they can use in the fields of advertising and public relations within the scope of digital design. Furthermore, in their final years, our students design public relations and advertising campaigns in which they can present the theoretical knowledge they have learned in a practical way, and implement these within the scope of their graduation project.
Since we basically aim to bring together theoretical education with practical applications, the content of the courses has also been structured in this way and the active participation of students has been targeted. In this direction, by coming together with sector professionals, students are enabled to communicate with them and benefit from their experiences in the sector. In addition, the aim is to increase our students' experience by encouraging their participation in conferences, symposiums or competitions organized in the fields of public relations and advertising. Our students who graduate from our department have the opportunity to work in the public and private sectors in fields such as advertising, public relations, media, communication, marketing, branding, visual communication and design, and corporate communication.
We will be happy to see among us all students who want to become a communication professional by considering progressing in the field of Public Relations and Advertising.
With love...
