Head of Department's Message

Dear Students, Colleagues and Esteemed Stakeholders,

As the Head of the Istanbul Galata University Department of Psychology, I carry the excitement of a vision that places both education and research at its center. My aim is to reposition psychology at our university not only as a theoretical field of knowledge but as a strong and active discipline that tries to understand human behavior with scientific methods and contributes to society. In this direction, we adopt an education model that emphasizes applied fields such as forensic psychology, environmental psychology, organizational psychology, human factors and clinical psychology. We aim for our students to be individuals who not only listen to lectures but also design experiments, analyze data and produce scientific solutions to real-world problems. With our applied psychology laboratory, it is our priority to enable psychology students to acquire research skills at an early stage and to raise them as individuals who are masters of scientific thinking, statistical literacy and research ethics. Since scientific rigor is a fundamental value for us, we also want our students to go beyond the superficial “popular psychology” knowledge frequently encountered in daily life and to have knowledge and skills at an expert level. At the same time, we attach great importance to international mobility programs and funds. Creating a student community that gains experience abroad through Erasmus and exchange programs, applies to TÜBİTAK projects and has high research motivation is among our priorities. We want to create a productive atmosphere in which our students inspire one another and compete in academic success. We are aware that the understanding that sees the university as a continuation of high school and perceives it as the last link of compulsory education does not motivate students. For this reason, we want to move forward together with students who keep the desire to learn alive, who are curious, who think, who question and who are open to development. We believe in the importance of creating a learning and teaching community with academics who carry the same enthusiasm. As the Istanbul Galata University Department of Psychology, within the historical texture of Galata, we offer a contemporary, dynamic and scientific psychology education. We invite you on this journey; and we wish for a future in which we will grow, discover and transform together.
